X 23 Cover

Reading X is like riding (insert your favorite thrill ride here).  You can’t just casually open the cover and leaf through an issue of X.  There’s too much going on.  You need to brace yourself, psych yourself up, and get ready for a full frontal assault on your senses.  This is a book that takes you to the edge and doesn’t bother slowing down as it blows right past that edge.  It’s a rush; it’s exhilarating; a little frightening; and so damned satisfying.

X21 Cover

Reading X is like riding a ride at a county fair.  I don’t mean like the bumper cars or the merry go round.  I mean you climb into some off branded Tilt-a Hurl type contraption and you strap yourself in with what looks like an old dog leash and before you know it you’re launched into some kind of Helter Skelter trajectory as you hurtle forward at speeds that are probably well past the tolerance level for this thing (not that it’s been rated in this decade, or even inspected, gawd, don’t think about the last time it was inspected…) but this thing rockets you nearly off its rails (which is weird, because you didn’t know it had rails) and you’re screaming, your friend can’t help laughing because that’s what your friend does when he’s scared and everyone else on the ride is screaming, and you’re pretty sure the Carny with three teeth and the Motley Crue Theater of Pain T-Shirt is laughing as well, and you’re pretty sure this is the last thing you’re ever going to do in your life ever…  and then it’s over.  And you made it, and you realize, “Damn, that was fun”.  That’s kind of how I feel about reading X.

X 20 Cover

I’ve talked in the past about how brutal X is; about how violent X is; about how jammed with action it is; about how good it is; but have I mentioned it has some pretty humorous moments as well?  Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a “funny book”, nope.  It’s still brutal and bloody and violent… there just happens to be some humorous moments that I really do appreciate but have probably failed to mention.

X 19 cover

I’m starting to worry about X.  He may have some issues with positive boy image and self-esteem.  Plus, he doesn’t seem to be making good choices.  Now that I think about it, I should probably be more worried about Duane and Eric.  They’re the ones putting him through all this.

x 18 cover

I mean, just, wow.  This book, man it just keeps getting better and better.  These Skin Traders, they’re legit.  And Heide, that little piggy.  Who knew way back in the first issues of this series he would turn out to be just a sadistic jag.  And X!  Finally getting some insight into how he can take all the punishment he’s taken so far.

X 17 cover

Violent, brutal, and slightly disturbing.  That’s what X #17 is.  Hell, that’s the entire run of X so far.  But man, there’s just something appealing about this ultra violent vigilante that I just can’t quite get enough of.  This issue makes a pretty good jumping on point for X.  (You can tell by the banner at the top of the cover that says “Starting Point For New Readers”).
